CITY OF HOPE NEWPORT DIAGNOSTIC CENTER
A cutting-edge cancer treatment facility specializing in medical oncology and infusion services, spanning an impressive 12,500 square feet.
The objective of this cancer treatment center was to provide easily reachable medical oncology and infusion services to patients of City of Hope in the Orange County area. Before this, the nearest facility was situated in Duarte, which was almost 50 miles distant.
The original building featured stairs and elevators on opposite sides of the lobby, resulting in a scattered, inefficient circulation area. By relocating the main stair to allow for a more compact circulation core, the design and construction team could utilize the existing space better and create an opportunity to provide a large, welcoming lobby area. Additional construction work included: Demolition of space to shell condition as well as structural upgrades including new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire life safety, and finishes. New site and civil work met ADA compliance. The build-out included nine exam rooms, two procedure rooms, seventeen infusion bays, and a USP 800 compounding pharmacy. After 21 delta plan revisions, ConAm met the aggressive schedule without delay and completed the City of Hope’s first Orange County site before opening day.
