CITY OF HOPE
NEWPORT DIAGNOSTIC CENTER
The goal of this cancer treatment center was to deliver more accessible medical oncology and infusion services care to City of Hope’s patients in the Orange County area.
Prior to this, the closest facility was in Duarte, nearly 50 miles away.
The original building featured stairs and elevators on opposite sides of the lobby, resulting in a scattered, inefficient circulation area. By relocating the main stair to allow for a more compact circulation core, the design and construction team was able to better utilize the existing space and created an opportunity to provide a large, welcoming lobby area. Additional construction work included: Demolition of space to shell condition as well as structural upgrades including new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire life safety, and finishes. New site and civil work met ADA compliance. The build-out included nine exam rooms, two procedure rooms, seventeen infusion bays, and a USP 800 compounding pharmacy. After 21 delta plan revisions, ConAm met the aggressive schedule without delay and completed the City of Hope’s first Orange County site before opening day.
